What the Research Says:

All children benefit from regular structured physical activity. Through daily activity, children can improve and maintain the health and quality of their lives. Greater amounts of physical activity produce greater health benefits. Physical activity improves mental health and is important for the health of muscles, bones, lunges, and joints. Physical activity reduces stress, helps to control weight, and is a valuable use of leisure time.

Gym Expectations:

Please remind scholars that jackets, sweatshirts, and hoodies are not allowed in the gymnasium unless otherwise notified. If scholars wear these items, become overheated, and need to remove them by placing them on the floor, they can obstruct space, which may result in someone tripping or falling. Hoodies are specifically not permitted, as the hood and front pockets could be pulled during physical or interactive activities, potentially causing injury.

Additionally, all scholars have been reminded that they must wear sneakers to participate in gym (no boots, Crocs, flip-flops, etc.). Finally, if scholars choose to bring a drink to the gymnasium, it must be water in a plastic container (no glass bottles). No other beverages are permitted. Spills involving anything other than water become sticky and difficult to clean and may attract mice and insects.
