Dear Wyandanch School Community,
As many of you are aware, the New York State Education Department (NYSED) has enacted regulations prohibiting the use of Indigenous-themed school names, logos, and mascots across the state. Although the Wyandanch Union Free School District made every effort to preserve the name “Warriors” as part of our identity, a recent court decision has mandated that we move forward with a complete change.
In response, we are beginning the process of selecting a new school mascot—and we invite you to be a part of that decision. As we continue to foster school pride and unity, we remain committed to the core values of the Wyandanch Union Free School District: respect, responsibility, integrity, and community. Your input is essential in helping us select a mascot that reflects the strength, spirit, and values of our district.
Our scholars in grades 5 through 12 will also be participating in this process, giving them a meaningful opportunity to have a voice and take part in shaping our shared future.
We encourage all staff, families, alumni, and community members to complete a brief survey and share their thoughts: The survey will remain open until May 2, 2025. Please share your feedback and help spread the word within our community.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We look forward to making this important decision—together.
